FADE IN: EXT. OUTSIDE TAYLOR HOME, DAY
BEE
I don't know, Otis. Andy would have a fit if he ever found about
about my minding an illegal moon shine operation.
OTIS
But, Aunt Bee, you've just got to help me out. I haven't
had a day off in about seven years!
BEE
My goodness! Has it been that long?
OTIS
Yes it has. And the thing practically runs itself. All you have
to do is sit in a rocking chair, feed in the corn once in a while and
look out for the law.
BEE
OTIS
(reluctantly)
Well, ah, yeah. But I'm sure he won't come around
if he thinks I'm gone out of town.
BEE
Well, okay Otis. But just for a few days!
OTIS
Oh thank you, Aunt Bee. I really appreciate it.
LATER IN THE WEEK. AUNT BEE HAS SLIPPED OUT OF THE HOUSE UNDER THE PRETENSES THAT SHE NEEDED TO HAVE A LOT OF TEETH TENDED TO OVER IN MT. PILATE. ANDY AND OPIE BUY THE STORY, HOOK, LINE AND SINKER, NOT STOPPING TO ASK THEMSELVES ABOUT THE MODE OF TRANSPORTATION AUNT BEE WILL USE TO GET TO THE DENTIST OFFICE IN A DIFFERENT TOWN.
AUNT BEE IS OUT IN THE WOODS SITTING, FEEDING IN THE CORN AND NESTLING THE SHOTGUN IN HER LAP AND HUMMING HER FAVORITE HYMNS.
BEE
Bringing in the sheeves, bringing in the sheeves, I will -
SUDDENLY AUNT BEE HEARS VOICES. SHE RAISES THE GUN INSTINCTIVELY.
BEE
Who is it? Who's there? That's close enough!
MAN #1
Otis? That you? You sound sick!
TWO GRUFF OLD MEN EMERGE FROM THE WOODS AND ARE SURPRISED TO SEE AN OLD WOMAN AT THE STILL.
MAN #2
Excuse us, mam. We're looking for Otis Campbell.
BEE
He's off this week. What can I do for you boys?
THE TWO MEN LOOK AT EACH OTHER, NOT KNOWING EXACTLY HOW TO PROCEED.
MAN #2
Mam, we need some hooch. You know, the real good stuff.
BEE
I'm afraid I'm not familiar enough with this set up to know
where to bleed off the, as you say, good stuff. Can
you help me?
MAN #2
Why sure, Mam. I believe that Otis just turns this valve right
over here -
AUNT BEE, HAVING TAKEN TO THE JOB OF TENDING OTIS' STILL AS THE HIGHEST CHALLENGE, IS AWARE ENOUGH TO HEAR MORE VOICES IN THE WOODS. SHE AGAIN RAISES HER SHOTGUN IN CASE THERE ARE UNFRIENDLIES ABOUT.
BEE
Who is it? Identify yourself or I'll fill you full of buckshot,
so help me!
THE OTHER VOICES END UP BELONGING TO NONE OTHER THAN ANDY AND BARNEY. EACH OF THEM IS CARRYING A COUPLE OF EMPTY JUGS.
ANDY
Aunt Bee!! What in the world are you doing here?!
BEE
Ah, Andy, I know this looks odd. Before you get mad, listen to me.
I told Otis that -
ANDY
Aunt Bee! Aunt Bee! Hold it! Look, I don't care that you lied about
your trip to Mt. Pilate while secretly in cahoots with Otis. Everybody
needs a little extra spending money -
BEE
Andy! Surely you don't think that I do this to get paid!? All I'm doing
is helping Otis for a few days. That's all.
ANDY
Barney, go fill these jugs up with high test while I continue
shooting the breeze with Aunt Bee.
BEE
Andy, I hate to have to do it, but I will need to charge you
for filling those jugs. Otis has strict inventory control.
ANDY
Strict inventory control, huh? Well how's this
for inventory control?
Andy kicks over the entire still.
ANDY
You're under arrest Aunt Bee.
Anything you say can and will
be held against you in a court of law. Do you understand?
BEE
ANDY
Barney, `cuff her. Use the number 4's. I'll go call this in.
BEE
Andy! Andy! What the (unintelligible) are you doing to me?
ANDY
Take her away, Barn. Sorry, Aunt Bee, it's just business. Ah, before
you go, do you know of any available housekeepers?
