On today's show we talk to a woman - Mary Humphries - who is
selling her grannie's teeth that are supposedly still filled
with precious metals. Here's Mary's add we saw:
Grannie's Teeth. My Grannie ate a lot, I mean often.
She wore out about 25 sets of false teeth. These are those, with
a few loose teeth of various sizes tossed in for good measure. "Gross!"
you say? Realize that Grannie may have been old and toothless but she put
only the finest custom dental appliances in her mouth.
I understand there is gold, platinum and silver throughout these pieces.
I haven't got the time to bust them up and hunt for the precious
metals. My tight schedule is your gain. Make me an offer.
SA
Mary, I don't mind telling you. The thought of owning your Grannie's
ex-teeth is not that appealing. I am curious about them though.
MARY
Why, that's not nice. Grannie would have wanted someone else
to get some use from her lovely used teeth. And I certainly
want someone to find the precious metals within.
SA
I thought you said the teeth are all ground down - worn out.
MARY
Technically, yes. But you have to remember that that was according
to Grannie's standards. It looks to my untrained eyes that the bulk
of these choppers are still pretty much just like new.
SA
But, why are there so many of them?
MARY
You mean sets or teeth in each set?
SA
I mean sets, but you do pose an odd question. Are you saying that her sets
of teeth had other than 32 teeth in them?
MARY
Grannie had a broad smile. She wanted her smile to be her trademark.
And it was. She went with a 48-tooth setting usually. A few extra
incisors and a few extra canines usually. Her smile was so great!
Poor old Grannie!
SA
Huh? 48 teeth? You are kidding!
MARY
No, I am not. And Grannie wouldn't have wanted you to continue
to deride her ex-dentures.
SA
Well, I mean no disrespect. I just wonder what she could have
been thinking. That many teeth would be real Kennedy-esque.
Is that what she was shooting for? That Joe Kennedy look, but
with a big wide mouth, full of teeth?
MARY
SA
All I am saying is that her teeth would only work in someone who is, A:
cheap, B: nutty and/or C: has a big mouth, apparently.
MARY
Well, I wouldn't sell her teeth to you at any price. How about that?!
SA
Oh yeah? Not even for $120?
MARY
Can you put that in writing? Grannie would have wanted it in writing.
