ANDY
Opie, where did you leave it? Didn't you leave it on our porch?
OPIE
Pa, I know I did. Aunt Bee saw me. In fact she came out
on the porch and sniffed the seat. Why did she do that, Pa?
ANDY
Never mind that, Opie. Did you lock the bike to the post?
ANDY
No, Pa. I just kind of leaned it up against the rail.
ANDY
Well, Opie, I'll see you later. I've got to go to work.
ANDY DRIVES THE SQUAD CAR TO THE COURTHOUSE WHERE BARNEY IS WAITING OUTSIDE FOR HIM.
BARNEY
ANDY
Oh, hi Barn. We've got a problem.
BARNEY
What is it, Andy? A bike thief or something?
ANDY LOOKS SUSPICIOUSLY AT BARNEY.
ANDY
How did you know about the bike heist?
BARNEY
(sheepishly)
Ah, just a wild guess. Just a guess.
ANDY
Barn! Do you know anything about Opie's bike?
BARNEY
(nervously)
No! I didn't steal it. Really!
ANDY
BARNEY
ANDY
How much did you get for it?
BARNEY
BARNEY SUDDENLY LOOKS FRIGHTENED.
ANDY
AH, HA! So you did steal it!
BARNEY
Ok, Andy. I've got the bike. But I was only keeping
it for the boy so no one else would steal it.
ANDY
Sure you were! Barney, you're looking at 5 years for grand larceny.
BARNEY
For stealing, I mean borrowing, a bike? That's ridiculous!
I didn't get that much time when I swiped Aunt Bee's
false teeth!
ANDY
You stole those teeth?! Why, I wound up buying a new upper
for her out of my own pocket!
BARNEY
Ange, I just want to say right now that I really made very
little on those teeth. I traded them to fellow in Mt. Pilate for
a transistor radio.
