BONANZA
- Western, 1 hr.
Brought about by his careless handling of cattle registration paperwork, Hoss has
had inflicted upon him the curse of bad credit, making him unable
to conduct business on behalf of his father's vast empire. Little Joe
is caught dealing from the bottom of the deck, so to speak, when acting as the
local arbiter in the parceling out Chinese ex-railroad workers as ranch help. As this episode
ends with five minutes of air time remaining, a bonus segment is included with
Hop Sing being interviewed about his experiences working in a Hong Kong laundry.

INT DOC'S OFFICE - DAY
DOC IS EXPLAINING TO BLACKSMITH QUINT ASPER HIS NEW-FOUND GIFT OF UNBORN EQUINE GENDER DETERMINATION.
DOC
I didn't even know I had this power, Quint. It just hit me one day.
QUINT
How did you even know you had the power?
DOC
QUINT
DOC
I was over at your shop when that mare was about to give birth.
QUINT
DOC
'member, I said, "Hey, I bet that colt is a male."
And, it was! How did I know?
QUINT
Seems like a 50-50 guess to me. Anybody could have done the same.
DOC
No! Don't you see? If I had not have guessed a male, it could have been
either gender!
QUINT
What?
Doc, I think you're giving yourself too much credit. You don't have
any special power!
DOC
QUINT
You trying to tell me that if, on that day, you had guessed a female, then
the animal that was actually born that day, and which was a male, would have
been a female.
DOC
Yes! That's precisely what I am telling you.
QUINT
I think you're full of it, Doc. I say again, anybody could have done what
you did.
DOC
Quint, I thought that you, of all other townsfolk, being an animal person
yourself, would have appreciated what I have shared with you. But, I see I was
wrong.
QUINT
(realizing the morning is slipping away)
Well, I have to get back to work.
Later, Doc.
QUINT PREPARES TO LEAVE DOC'S OFFICE.
DOC
Ah, Quint, please don't tell anyone about my newfound power. I want to try to
figure out a way to cash in on it.
QUINT JUST SHAKES HIS HEAD IN DISBELIEF, LEAVING HIS RUG IN A SKEWED ORIENTATION.
