FADE IN: INT. CLEAVER'S GARAGE
EDDIE AND THE BEAVER AND LARRY ARE ALONE IN BEAVER'S GARAGE.
EDDIE
Listen, you squirts, I am going to do you a favor. How would each of you like
to earn $5 for an easy job?
BEAVER
EDDIE
Yeah, my pop wants me to drag some new insulation under my house and put it up. Easy!
BEAVER
If it's so easy, why don't you just do it?
EDDIE
Well, I don't have the time to do it. Yeah, that's right. I've got to go over to Mary
Ellen Rogers' place with Wally on the days I would be doing this work.
LARRY
Well, how long will it take us if Beaver and me both do the work?
EDDIE
Depends on how fast you guys can work.
BEAVER
Gee, I don't know, Eddie. Sounds like creepy work. Isn't it wet and
dark under your house? And could be snakes and such.
EDDIE
I think all the snakes and the like were yanked out and run off or killed last Spring.
Yes, it is a little damp down there. But not bad.
I will provide you with my official Boy Scout flashlight to share.
LARRY
When were you even in the Boy Scouts, Eddie!?
EDDIE
I went to a few meetings!
(beat)
So, do we have a deal or not?
BEAVER
Well, ... whatdayou think, Larry?
LARRY
Gee, Beaver. I'd have to see this wet, dark creepy space before I said "yes".
BEAVER
(to Eddie)
Hey, Eddie, take us over to see under your house. Or we will decline the
offer right here and now.
EDDIE REALIZES IT'S THESE TWO WORKERS OR HIM FOR THIS NASTY JOB.
EDDIE
OK. Meet me in an hour at the back of my house.
ALL THREE BOYS MEET LATER AT EDDIE'S BACK YARD BY THE ENTRANCE TO HIS CRAWL SPACE.
EDDIE
OK. We're here. Now, how 'bout doing the work?
LARRY
Aren't you going to open the door so we can see?
EDDIE
I can't. It's locked. Look.
(points)
LARRY
Duh, I can see that. Get the key.
EDDIE
If I go get the key, do we have a deal?
LARRY
If we can't see what's down there, no deal.
BEAVER
EDDIE
OK, OK, I'll get the key.
EDDIE RUNS INSIDE HIS HOUSE.
LARRY
Hey, Beav. I don't think I want to go under Eddie's house.
BEAVER
Me neither. Let's get outta here.
BOTH BOYS RUN BACK TO BEAVER'S YARD.
EDDIE COMES OUT WITH THE KEY, BUT NOBODY IS THERE. HE OPENS THE CRAWL SPACE DOOR ANYWAY.
TO EDDIE'S SURPRISE, WHEN THE DOOR WAS OPENED, NUMEROUS LARGE, WET RATS SCURRY OUT. EDDIE IS FREIGHTENED AND RUNS BACK IN HIS HOUSE.
FADE IN: LATER INT. HASKEL HOUSE
EDDIE'S FATHER
Boy, did you do that insulation job like I told you to do?
EDDIE
Oh, that. Well, the Cleaver kid and his buddy double-crossed me, Pop. Can you call Mr.
Cleaver and tell him?
EDDIE'S FATHER
EDDIE
Tell him that his son and his friend had verbally agreed with me to perform labor
and then they reneged.
EDDIE'S FATHER
EDDIE
(to himself, witnessing his father's gullibility)
EDDIE'S FATHER
What was that? The Cleaver child also stole your rope?
EDDIE
