FADE IN:
INT. BALLROOM HOSTING FOLLIES
THE YEARLY AWARDS HAVE JUST BEEN HANDED OUT AND THE ENTERTAINMENT PORTION OF THE SHOW IS ABOUT TO BEGIN.
EMCEE
Well, folks, everyone enjoying themselves?!
We have a real treat now. Our own Danny Williams is going to tell us all
why being a police officer is such a worthwhile occupation.
Take it away Danno!
DANNY WILLIAMS COMES TO CENTER STAGE AMIDST THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE.
DANNO
OK! Thank you, Johnny. How is everyone?!
Hey! What do a police officer and a DJ have in common? --- They both ask
people to put their hands up!
A SMATTERING OF LAUGHTER. MCGARRETT IS LOOKING EXPECTANTLY AT DANNO.
DANNO
Alright! Thank you! Hey, a drunk wakes up in jail. "Why am I here, officer?" --- "For
drinking", replies the officer. "Great", says the man. "When do we start?"
THE ONLY SOUND IS THE CLINKING OF SERVERS COLLECTING EMPTY GLASSES.
MCGARRETT IS FEELING HIS LIEUTENANT SWEATING.
OTHER POLICE OFFICERS ARE LOOKING AT EACH OTHER BLANKLY.
DANNO
Hey, now! Here's a good one. A Hilo cop ask a motorist, "Why did you park here?"
(Are you ready for this?!) --- The motorist said, "The sign says, 'Fine for parking' "!
A SMATTERING OF BOOS CAN BE HEARD. PEOPLE BEGIN TO WALK OUT.
THE EMCEE RUSHES BACK ON STAGE TO END THIS DISASTER.
EMCEE
OK, folks, that was Danny Williams! You can catch his full act at the Blue Wave
on Front St. every Friday and Saturday through June.
DANNO, CONFUSED AT THE BRUSK END TO HIS SHOW, GRABS THE MIKE AND SQUEEZES IN ONE MORE JOKE.
DANNO
(while being escorted off stage)
Did you hear about the Hilo cop they caught sleeping on the job? ... He was undercover!
DANNO FINALLY IS OFF THE STAGE AND IS MET BY A SYMPATHETIC MCGARRETT.
MCGARRETT
So, Danno... how long you been weekend double-dipping on me?
DANNO
Did you think my stuff was killer?
MCGARRETT
No, Danno. No, I didn't. You laid a huge egg, so to speak.
DANNO
But, you're no real judge of this type of talent, right?
