FADE IN: INT. KITCHEN
LUKE AND KATE ARE SITTING AT THE KITCHEN TABLE DISCUSSING THE SITUATION OF LITTLE LUKE HAVING THE HOTS FOR HIS TEACHER.
LUKE
Well, I guess it happens all the time, Sugar Babe. A young boy having
an attractive - very attractive, I might add - teacher and starting to have
a thing for her. Like a girlfriend, kind of.
KATE
Well, you sure have thought about this!
And, very atractive??!
LUKE
Well, what I meant was ...
KATE
No! I know what you meant.
LUKE
No, I don't think you do! I was just saying it's natural for a young guy like Little Luke
to, every once in a while, see his school teacher as more than just a teacher. I know it
happened to me.
(to himself)
KATE
AMOS WANDERS IN LOOKING FOR A PIECE OF CORN PONE.
AMOS
Hey Kate, didn't we have some left over pone from yesterday?
KATE
LUKE
No it's not, Sugar Babe. Remember, you put it in that box.
KATE
LUKE
'Scuse her, Grampa. She's kind of mad at me for trying to explain why and how Little Luke
might have a crush on his teacher.
AMOS
(to Kate)
Oh, well, gol' durn it! It's OK for that to happen. It happens all the time. It
happened to me, even.
LUKE
(smiling)
AMOS
LUKE
What?! I thought you meant when you were young.
AMOS
No sir, it was when I got a load of Little Luke's teacher over at the schoolhouse. Oh, mama!
KATE
Grampa, aren't you a little old to be getting the hots for a much younger woman?
AMOS
I'm still alive, ain't I?
LUKE
KATE CUTS HER HUSBAND A COLD STARE.
KATE
I think it's disgusting of you men to go around ogling any woman you think is mildly
attractive.
AMOS
Kate, she ain't just any woman! She's a gol' durn fox! And "mildly attractive" doesn't
begin to describe her!
KATE
Grampa! You should be ashamed!
AMOS
Well, I could be persuaded to let this one go since Little Luke saw her first. But
it pains me. It really does.
KATE
Mighty white of you, Grampa.
