AFTERNOON

Aunt Bee floats the notion of she and her gal pals starting a female-only sherrif's department in Mayberry.

THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW

"Bee and her Hive"

FADE IN: INT. JAILHOUSE

ANDY AND BARNEY ARE IN THE JAILHOUSE DISCUSSING THE PLAN AUNT BEE HAS PUT FORTH OF THERE NEEDING TO BE A FEMALE-RUN LAW ENFORCEMENT ORGANIZATION IN MAYBERRY.

BARNEY

You know, Ange, I don't know how Aunt Bee will get to square one with this crazy idea she has.

ANDY

Well, crazier things have happened than there being a all-girl law outfit.

BARNEY

That may be, but in Mayberry?? I doubt it!

ANDY
(grinning)

You know, Barn, we ought to tell Thelma Lou and Helen to act like they are all for Aunt Bee's idea and then pull the plug when it's crunch time.

Huh? Pretty good?

BARNEY

You think the girls will do it?

ANDY

Well, I know Helen will. We're tetering on setting a marriage date and she can ill afford to do anything I won't like any time soon.

BARNEY
(smiling big)

Marriage?! Why didn't you tell me??

ANDY

Barney, just between you and me, I have no intentions of getting married. As in, Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free!

BARNEY
(grinning)

10-4 on that!

JUST THEN AUNT BEE COMES IN THE JAILHOUSE FRONT DOOR.

BEE

Oh good. I have you two boys here together. Have you heard about the movement I am starting? To get a female-only law enforcement organization started here in Mayberry?

Well, I just want to tell you both that there are no hard feelings toward the existing, and all-male, police force, but it is about time that the ladies on Mayberry had a say about how things go around here.

ANDY

Aunt Bee, we think it is a dandy idea you have. And we hope you get Thelma Lou and Helen into your group right off the bat.

BEE

Already have them on board.

ANDY AND BARNEY LOOK AT EACH OTHER.

ANDY
(to Barney)

Barn, we haven't even told the girls about our plan to sabotage Aunt Bee's deal. How could they have joined this??

BARNEY
(to Andy)

You reckon they want to be a part of this crazy thing, even it it means your marriage plans are in Neverland?

ANDY

Ah, Aunt Bee, you say the girls are already signed up?

BEE

Yes indeedy! In fact, Helen cleary said she'd rather be the police rather than be married to one!

BARNEY

What about Thelma Lou?

BEE

She said she'd do it if Helen did.

So, boys, do you want to just resign right now, or do we have to turn this into an ugly show?

ANDY

Ah, Aunt Bee, was there any mention from Helen of free milk?

BEE

Oh, Andy. Surely you jest!
