INT: JAIL HOUSE
MATT DILLON IS STUDYING HIS RECEEDING HAIRLINE IN A MIRROR.
DOC ENTERS.
DOC
(Doc noticies Matt's pensive attitude)
DOC
Say, Matt, what'cha doing? Looking for wrinkles?
(Doc chuckles a little)
MATT
It's not that, Doc. Kitty, in her unabashed frankness, has reccommended I get
a piece. She thinks I'd have more an attitude of male "completeness" when
I hang around at the Long Branch.
DOC
What in tarnation is a piece? A piece of what?
MATT
(giving Doc the "duh" look)
DOC
(studying Matt's hairline at the front)
Well, who among us doesn't wish for more hair?
(about to laugh)
Tarnation, Matt! You've got plenty of hair!
MATT
Well, I thought so too. But now that Kitty has brought it up, right here -
(Matt points to his side hair line)
- I guess it could be more full.
DOC
MATT
DOC
Come on, Matt. What in thunder does it matter that you are going bald? Many men -
MATT
Going bald!? Who said anything about bald? I believe I said it
was getting somewhat thin.
DOC
OK. Bald, thin, grey, ... It doesn't matter.
MATT
(beat)
Can you see a bald-headed lawman winning anything in a gunfight?
DOC
MATT
I have to try to get a rug by 3PM today when I have a duel scheduled with that
loser from the Woody gang. You know, the one who stole those 34 horses?
DOC
Now that you bring that up, I wonder where he was temporarily holding that many horses.
(beat)
Hey, Matt, I just had a thought. Maybe since those horses were never recovered, and
therefore since they are still alive somewhere, you could offer to just jail him for
life it he tells you where those horses, which I presume have long, full, thick,
manes and tails, are so that you might cut off some of that fine natural horse hair
and have one of the ladies here in town fashion a quickie hairpiece for you.
(Whew!)
MATT
(beat)
Didn't Quint, you know that short-lived blacksmith here in Dodge, have a rug?
DOC
I b'lieve he did. But, what's that got to do with your situation?
MATT
Nothin'. Just trying to decide if I will go horse-hair or try to do better.
Horse-hair is quite rough. Kitty might disapprove.
DOC
(looks at his watch)
Well, it's 1PM now. "Better" ain't in the cards today, I'm afraid.
